David H. Patton, the father of Mrs. Emma Moore and Mrs. Ben Bilbo, who has been seriously ill for some time, died on Sunday. The Crawfordsville Journal says: David H. Patton, 88 years old, died at his home on Covington Street at five-thirty Sunday afternoon, infirmities of old age bringing to a close a period of suffering for seven years. Mr. Patton was one of the most widely known men in the County. Coming to this country for Ohio, where he was born in 1825, while a young man, he had resided here since. For years he lived on a farm near Elmdale and about ten years ago he moved to the home on Covington Street, where he died Sunday. Five daughters and three sons survive their father, but their mother Mary Patton, died thirty-eight years ago. His third wife, Edna, is living. His first wife, Margaret Ann Wilhite, died in 1858. The sons are William and Hugh of this city, and George of Linden. The daughters are Mrs. Emma Moore and Mrs. Mollie Bilbo, Waveland, Mrs. Carrie McCullough, Colorado and Mrs. Bert VanCleave of Crawfordsville. Three brothers William of Round Hill; T. F. of Brown's Valley, and George of Nebraska, are living. Another brother, Barney, died in Kansas a year ago. Funeral services will be held from the late home on two Tuesday afternoon, Rev. J. M. Alexander, pastor of the First Christian Church of which the deceased was a member for years will conduct the services. Burial will be in Masonic Cemetery. (thanks to Peggy Robertson for this one)
